You may be able to claim the child and dependent care credit if you paid expenses for the care of a qualifying individual to enable you (and your spouse, if filing a joint return) to work. To qualify your child or dependent must be under 13 or must be disabled and physically or mentally incapable of caring for herself. The credit is worth 20%-35% of the first $3,000 of qualifying expenses for one person or $6,000 for 2 or more persons.

Qualifying expenses include:

  • Daycare fees
  • Summer Camp fees
  • Before & after-school care
Education Tax Credits
$50

If you or your dependent is a student, you may be eligible for an education tax credit that helps with the cost of higher education. The two credits available are the American opportunity tax credit (AOTC) and the lifetime learning credit (LLC). We can help help you pick the right one for your situation and save up to $2,500 on your income taxes.

Child Tax Credit

However, the credit is cut back if your income exceeds the levels listed below:

  • $55,000 for Married Filing Separately
Earned income Credit

The table below is for calendar year 2017.

For example, if you file jointly with your spouse and have two qualifying children, your joint income cannot be more than $50,597.
